It Was A Sweet 16 Birthday

When you have been stamping and making cards for 13+ years, my kids have come to expect a special handmade birthday card on their special day.  Most of the time I am a few days late….and my daughter always reminds me not to be 9 months late. (yeah that did happen once!)

Here is the card I made my Daughter for her Sweet 16.  She loves all shades of pink, gold and the pool shades of blue- Cool pool and Pool Play!  So that is what I chose for her card.

handmade birthday card

No stamps for the front, it is all die cutting for this handmade birthday card!  The birthday die cuts for the Happy (hostess gift) and the designer frames for the gold birthday!  LOVE the mirror gold paper!  sooooo shiny!

I added the rectangle die cuts with the piercing for some added detail.  I love a clean crisp white card!  Of course she loved it!  I stamped a cute sentiment (from the FSJ set Celebrate Everything) on the inside but wrote all over the inside of this fun handmade birthday card before I realized I forgot to take a picture!

In addition to the colors she loves all things tropical.  Leaves, pineapples, toucans, sloths!  I decided to get her scrap page done right away!  We had birthday and gold balloons in her favorite colors!

This handmade birthday card is created with the Colorful Journey prints designer paper pack.  Pink and black…  You know its one of my favorites and with sparkles too!  This Birthday Words die cuts on this card are layered.  It is actually 2 die cuts, one black and one bubblegum just slightly off center.

I added some accents with cut rhinestones and fashion silver.  It picks up on the silver in the journey sparkle tape. Just the right amount of bling!

Magical Unicorn Shaker Card Tutorial

Hi My name is Jill and I am addicted to unicorns and shaker cards.  Do you love Unicorns? what about shaker cards?  Even if you don’t, they are hot with the kids these days!  Unicorns are everywhere with rainbows and glitter too.  Even big girls love them.  My kids are a little older so I make these for my friends with girls to give at birthday parties.  They are always a favorite like dinosaurs and trucks are for the boys.  Granddaughters will love them too!  This shaker card tutorial will be all you need to get you started!

Today we are going to learn the basic steps of putting together a shaker card.  It is pretty simple and gives a “wow”! and as card makers and paper crafters- we all love the WOW factor!

Lets start by cutting a circle on your top layer of card stock (whip cream, 3.75 x 5).  I used the Journey circle around dies here because I wanted stitching around the outside of the circle.  I want to die cut and stitch at the same time to save a step, so I used washi tape to hold the dies in the exact position I wanted them.

After I ran it through my Journey Platinum machine, I have a window with some details around the edge.  You can add all kinds of detail around your window! not just stitching.

Save your circle die cut for another project.  Now you need to make your “window”.  I used the FSJ clear view sheets. (cut to 4 x3.5). Your clear view sheet should be smaller than you whip cream panel but larger than your window.  Adhere with your standard adhesive all the way around the window opening.  You don’t want any shaker items falling out. It is hard to see the adhesive under the clear view sheet but it is there.

now you are ready to add foam tape.  You can also use foam squares.  make sure there are no gaps between the foam where shaker items can fall out.  add some to the corners as well to make sure it is evenly popped up all around when you finish your card.

Stamp your image on the back piece of card stock. (Pretty Amethyst, 3.75 x 5) Be careful to line it up just right where you can see it through the window.  Add your shaker card materials to the inside of the foam.  I used sunrise mix sequins.  I always add just a little more than I think I need. You don’t want your shaker card to be skimpy!

Peel off the foam tape backing to reveal the sticky side and carefully place your card stock on top the seal in the shaker card materials. be careful to line it up just right.   This creates the colored background behind your window.

Now you are ready to complete your card!  I added a gray layer (Riverstone, 4 x 5.25) to my card to match the Unicorn.  My card base is Bubblegum card stock 4.25 x 11 scored at 5.5.

And here is the card with the rest of the details added. A few matching sequins and some cut rhinestones for some extra bling.  She’s just beautiful don’t you think?

Make a Wish!

How cute is this?

I used the Journey Gel Press and Sweet Berry, tangerine Fusion and Huckleberry Fusion re-inkers.  I placed a few color dots onto the Gel Press then mixed up the colors with the Brayer. Surprisingly EASY!!!

But there are a few more steps….

Then, instead of just plain whip cream card stock I used and embossed panel (happy Birthday bash). and pressed it into the Journey Gel Press. That lifted the color for the words.  Then I used a plain whip cream panel and pressed into the gel press for the negative image.

It Turned out amazing!  Another one of a kind!

Stamps: Lets Eat Cake

Ink: Huckleberry Fusion

The Journey Gel Press

Like the previous card, I used the Journey Gel Press and Sweet Berry and tangerine Fusion re-inkers.  I placed a few color dots onto the Gel Press then mixed up the colors with the Brayer. Surprisingly EASY!!!

One of a kind!
